MSc Thesis: Automated Interoperability Validation for Healthcare Software

Looking for a thesis project that combines technical challenges with real-world impact? At RaySearch, you'll have the chance to work with talented colleagues and contribute to software that supports cancer treatment around the world. We value curiosity, collaboration, and fresh perspectives, and we see thesis students as an important part of our teams.

Project description

Modern radiotherapy relies on the safe and reliable exchange of treatment plans, images, and patient information between systems from different vendors. This communication is typically based on the DICOM standard, but interoperability issues can still occur due to vendor-specific implementations and evolving standards. Detecting these issues is often a manual and time-consuming process.

In this thesis, you will explore how DICOM conformance requirements can be transformed into machine-readable validation rules and used to automatically identify interoperability risks.

The project combines software engineering, communication protocols, healthcare technology, and data validation, while addressing a real-world challenge in modern cancer care.

Your main tasks

  • Design and implement a prototype framework that analyzes DICOM data
  • Validate it against standard and vendor-specific requirements, to provide actionable feedback to developers and users.

Your profile

We are looking for a master's student with interest in healthcare technology, communication standards, and software quality.

  • Master of Science student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience and interest in programming

It’s an advantage, but not required, if you also have experience of C#/.Net, Knowledge of DICOM, data validation, automated testing, or interoperability standards.
